I committed two faux pas at the Emerging Designer Awards last night, I managed to forget my camera and a pen, so I wrote notes in lipstick and borrowed these images from stuff.co.nz. Although the overall winner Igor Galas from Croatia wasn't my pick you could appreciate the work that went into his knitwear creations. The image of Roxanna Zamani's silk creations doesn't do justice to the beautiful layers of silk that floated down the runway. I also loved the boldness of Glenn Yungnickel's menswear creations, the innovative layering techniques and laser cut leather in Sophie Hardy's colourful collection, the footwear Ryota Shiga created to complement the quiet beauty of his Japanese themed pieces and the menswear on display from Ichiro Suzuki and Melanie Child used material in different ways to produce beautiful garments, but the highlight of my night was definitely standing next to the flamingo-amazingness that is Zandra Rhodes.

Yesterday at work I had the pleasure of meeting one of the ladies involved in launching New Zealand's (and maybe even the world's she thought) first totally online museum dedicated to New Zealand's fashion history. The website will be going viral in 3 weeks time so watch this space. Another invaluable fashion resource about to hit the shelves is a comprehensive guide to contemporary New Zealand fashion by Te Papa curator Angela Lassig in the form of a glossy large format beautiful book. The book will be available for purchase from April.

Topshop Unique opened London Fashion Week with a romp through the great outdoors. I think I just loved this so much because of the use of animal masks, hooves and deer antlers. Lot's of shearling and green tones popped up again, like in New York. But mostly, I'll be interested to see when I get back to London, how Topshop translates the looks to store worthiness.

The Dunedin based label started by designer Sara Aspinall has a unique and distinctive sustainable design vision, the label produces garments alongside new and revamped vintage accessory pieces. Being away from my computer for the last week meant I missed out on the rather sad news that Luella had ceased trading, after Bartley's backer Club 21 announced that it no longer wanted to invest in the future of the label. The statement follows the news last month of the unexpected closure of the brand's key clothing producer, meaning Spring 2010 orders could not be filled. The announcement has drawn much support for Bartley from fashionistas around the world, including a 'Save Luella' facebook page . Heres hoping she finds another backer soon if I could win the British version of Lotto I'd buy the label in a heartbeat.
